Water Security

On 25 January the Prime Minister announced the Commonwealth's $10 billion National Plan for Water Security. The plan aims to improve water efficiency and to address the over-allocation of water in rural Australia, particularly in the Murray-Darling Basin. Further information on the announcement and the outcomes of recent meetings with the State Premiers are provided below.

  • Interview with John MacKenzie 746AM, Cairns - 20 March

    This morning the Prime Minister was interviewed by John MacKenzie on the first anniversary of Cyclone Larry. The Prime Minister spoke of how the three pillars of government effectively worked together with the community of Innisfail and surrounding areas to rebuild the devastate region.

  • Ministry - 18 March

    Today the Prime Minister announced that His Excellency the Governor General had accepted his recommendations for the following ministerial appointments - The Honourable Christopher Pyne MP will become Minister for Ageing; The Honourable Teresa Gambaro MP will become Assistant Minister for Immigration and Citizenship and Senator Brett Mason will become Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health and Ageing.

  • Address to Australian Troops - Overwatch Battle Group - West Dhi Qar, Iraq - 17 March

    In his address to Australian troops in Iraq, the Prime Minister spoke of the admiration felt by all Australians of the work they are doing in Iraq.

  • Joint Press Conference with Nuri al-Maliki Prime Minister of Iraq Baghdad, Iraq - 17 March

    At a joint press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki today in Baghdad, the Prime Minister reassured Iraq that Australia would continue its presence in the region until the Iraqi people are reasonably able to provide for their own future security.

  • Historic MOU on Cooperation in Education Signed - 12 March

    Today the Prime Minister witnessed the signing of an historic Memorandum on Cooperation in Education between Australia and Japan. The Memorandum was signed by Ms Yuko Obuchi, Japanese Vice Minister for Education and Australian Ambassador to Japan, Mr Murray McLean OAM.
