Jean Murray, nee Moran, was born in 1898 at Abermain. Her father, Larry Moran, was one of the earliest workers at Abermain Colliery, even recalling the night that coal was first struck at the pit. In the interview Mrs Murray recalls her early life growing up in Abermain with special regard to her involvement with the Catholic Church in the area. As well as recalling early nuns and priests of the parish, there is also a description of the influenza outbreak which occured in the 1920s and affected much of the Cessnock district.
