PADI Search - Help
PADI Search uses Nutch.
Queries
To search with Nutch just type in a few words and select Search or press Enter.
- Results only include pages that contain all of the query words.
- Use quotes around words that must occur adjacently, as a phrase, e.g. "New Zealand".
- Punctuation between words also triggers phrase matching. So searching for http://www.pandora.nla.gov.au/ is the same as searching for "http www pandora.nla.gov.au".
- Searches are not case-sensitive, so searching for NuTcH is the same as searching for nUtCh.
- You can prohibit a term from resulting pages by putting a minus before it, e.g., searching for rights -management will find pages that discuss rights, but don't use the word "management".
- To refine a search, add or remove specific words in the query box and select Search or press Enter.
Results
May include a mixture of Resources indexed in the PADI Database, PADI Topic pages and other PADI website pages that contain words or phrases that meet your search criteria.
PADI indexed resources
- PADI Resources have been selected by our subject indexers for inclusion in the PADI Database. In the search results they are distinguished by a blue URL at the bottom of the description. Click on the URL to navigate directly to the external web address or alternately click on the title of the resource to navigate to the full description prepared by PADI indexers. From there either click on the title or URL to navigate to the relevant web page (if applicable). Note: You will need to use your browser back button to return to the PADI website or PADI search results page.
PADI Topic pages
-
Topic pages provide an overview of a given topic and list related resources which can be browsed. A full list of PADI Topic pages is available in the PADI Thesaurus. In the search results Topic pages are distinguished by a gold URL at the bottom of the description which starts with "http://www.nla.gov.au/padi/topics/". Clicking on the title will take you to the topic page (the URL is not navigable). You can then either scroll and browse the page or use your browser's "find on the page" command to find occurences of your specific search term. For example Internet Explorer and Firefox have the shortcut Ctrl+F, with Next and Previous buttons.
Other PADI pages
- Are distinguished by a gold URL at the bottom of the description. The URL is is not navigable but clicking on the title will take you to the relevant PADI web page, which you can scroll and browse, or use the browsers "find on the page" command to find occurences of your specific search term.
