The
lithograph represents James Mackay (1804-1875) and family who sailed in
1845 from Scotland in the Slains Castle, and settled at Nelson, New
Zealand. The Scottish Gaelic community in Australia have through their
songs maintained the richness of old Gaelic traditions, and a
connection with Scottish culture (see story page 18).
