David Hicks at Guantanamo Bay

Friday, February 9th, 2007

The appalling treatment of Australian citizen David Hicks (and others) at Guantanamo Bay has so disturbed Max and Jacqui Merckenschlager that they have written and recorded a protest song.

The issue is not about guilt or innocence, but rather of justice denied.

Listen to the song:

Lyrics:

Guantanamo Bay

Perhaps he is innocent, maybe he’s not,
but for twenty two hours each day in a cell,
his treatment is worse than for rapists and for murderers,
living the lie of American Hell.

The image is toppling of western democracy,
more than five years in a state of decay,
chained to the carrion of honour and of justice,
all victims of law at Guantanamo Bay.

War against terror,
held without charges
trial without jury
terror, torture, justice,

FREEDOM!

Perhaps he is innocent, or maybe he’s not,
for twenty two hours each day in a cell,
his treatment is worse than for rapists or murderers,
living the lie of American Hell.
