Centenary of Federation Celebrations
Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd June
Families of pioneers who worked on the construction of the Hydro Electric Corporation in the Central Highlands over 50 years ago are invited back to celebrate their achievements and the culture they created in the wilderness during the Nation's first 100 years. The weekend will include, scenic tours, musical entertainment, dancing, a symbolic bonfire and special ecumenical church service.

Mr Stephen Wilkinson
will lecture on: "IBIS Breast Cancer Prevention (International) Trial" an international trial to which Tasmanian women have made the greatest contribution per head of population than any other state

Living on the Land - Past and Present Presentation*
Campbell Town

Presented at the Campbell Town Show, the "Living on the Land - Past and Present", exhibition is a Centenary of Federation project created by an historian and local students to document the history of the wool industry in the Campbell Town area with special emphasis on the workers in the industry. The display will be relocated into the Heritage Highway museum in Campbell Town.

The Suncoast Jazz Festival
St Helens

For lovers of jazz don't miss this annual festival where invited jazz musicians from the mainland are mixed and matched with outstanding local Tasmanian musicians to create a wonderful spontaneous concert of Jazz. The festival is held at the St Helens Hotel/Motel, the St Helens RSL Club. A public concert on Sunday afternoon, following a street march in St Helens will be held in the school gymnasium

Federation - A Turning Point Exhibition

This exhibition will highlight Tasmania's part in the Federation movement and follow steps towards Federation from the 1850's .
It will transport visitors back to the time of Federation with images not only of the pomp and ceremony of Federation but also of events, activities, people and places capturing the essence of the time.

Photographic Exhibition - 100 years of Social Housing

'One Hundred Years of Social Housing' will present a pictorial record of how social housing has changed over the past 100 years in Tasmania and has ledto better health and capacity to participate in the community. Archival materials, subdivision plans, house plans, quotations and photographs will illustrate the government's role in providing housing assistance from the early housing schemes around 1915 to the more recent focus on communitydevelopment.

Royal Visit 1901 - A Memorable Event -

This exhibition is being produced by The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and is based on the official visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York as part of the celebrations for Federation in July 1901. Includes re-enactments and performances by school children.
