| What is
Seniors SkillsBank?
Seniors SkillsBank is a service of Volunteering
Western Australia (VWA) and was initiated in 1999 with the assistance of the WA
Governments Office of Seniors Interests. Its purpose is to link up mature-age people
who wish to volunteer their demonstrated, specialist skills for short-term assignments
with community-based organisations in the not-for-profit sector. Volunteering with the
Seniors SkillsBank is a satisfying way in which mature people with expertise can offer
their services to the community.
What kind of skills is the Seniors
SkillsBank looking for?
We are looking for a diverse range of skills which
not-for-profit organisations can utilise for short periods*. For example: fundraising,
information technology, horticulture, financial management, driving, foreign languages,
entertainment, event organising, public relations and marketing, cooking, student
mentoring, repair and maintenance, legal advice, arts and crafts, and many, many more. It
may mean teaching the basic skill to someone in the organisation so they can become
self-sufficient in the future.
* Short periods may mean hours, days, weeks, or months it
depends on an organisations requirements.
How to register
To register with Seniors SkillsBank it is necessary
to make an appointment with the Volunteer SkillsBank Coordinator (Isobel) or Seniors
Services Manager (Gary) at Volunteering WA on 9420-7288 or using the other contact methods
shown on the home page. It does not matter whether you have volunteered before. We will
let you know our basic requirements and any other information about Volunteering WAs
range of services.
