Melbourne venue The Punters Club celebrates 13 years as a live music venue at the end of July with two very special nights on Friday July 27 with a performance by High Pass Filter and Music vs Physics, and the following night on Saturday July 28 when Kirsty Stegwazi launches her new album 'Jailbirds'. Mach Pelican release their new vinyl 7" single 'Airport' through the Corduroy label this month. The single is lifted from recording sessions the band did last year with Kim Salmon. The band launched the single in Melbourne on the weekend past are now set to head off for a Japanese tour.
El Mopa are slated to commence recording their next album in late July in a south coast beach shack, with J Walker of Machine Translations assisting with mixing and recording before he heads overseas for a USA/Europe tour. Additional mixes with Jon Gardner and Emma Hoy of The Rebel Astronauts, and overdubs with Angus Kingston, are also planned to occur. No release date has been announced at this stage
Deloris return to Sydney this weekend with Glenn Richards from Augie March for two double-header shows at the Hopetoun Hotel on Friday July 20 and Saturday July 21. These will be their last shows before the band enters the studio to commence work on their third album, due for release early next year.
Cosmic Psychos are supporting Tool on their national Australian tour in July, however aside from that the band are set to play a rare headline show in their hometown of Melbourne on Friday August 17 @ Corner Hotel to celebrate the CD release of their best of compilation '10 Years And A Million Beers'.
Sodastream are currently putting the finishing touches on the artwork for their second album 'The Hill For Company', which features eleven new tracks and Art of Fighting's Marty Brown again on drums. The album is due for release September 3rd on Trifekta, and will be enjoying a world-wide release with Rough Trade in the US, P-Vine in Japan and Tugboat in the UK & Europe.
Magic Dirt have delayed the release of their next single 'Supagloo', with it now due out August 27th instead of July. Their most recent album 'What Are Rock Stars Doing Today' has now been released in New Zealand on Warner Records, and in Germany on East/West Records and soon due for release by Japanese label IMG in October.
The Mavis's are currently on the road from their national tour, accompanied by special guests Oblivia for the majority of the tour, and these show will see the band showcasing the new material that they been busy writing and recording in the studio.
MAV & Her Majesty's Finest launch their next CD 'Long time, Nothing new' on Friday August 17th at The Espy and this will be accompinied by a video & regional tour finishing back in Melbourne at The Armadale on Friday, September 21st.
Machine Translations having successfully finished launching their new record 'Bad Shapes' in the eastern capitals are now are just weeks away from embarking on a four week international tour - with shows confirmed in San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Groningen, Paris and London throughout August. A new radio single lifted from the album is currently and will include one new song not on the record that features computer vocals.

'These Things Take Time' is a video compilation project put together by members of Sodastream and Art Of Fighting in collaboration with the people at Sensory Projects, Jet Black Productions and Vivian Cooper Smith Design. The complilation features the clips of 14 Australian bands that are as follows:- Sodastream, Sea Life Park, Gersey, The Tigers, Deloris, Knievel, Art Of Fighting, Purplene, Light's Surprising Constancy, Adam Said Galore, The Dumb Earth, Tendrils, Marcus Goodwin, and The Lucksmiths. Having recently enjoyed a successful Melbourne launch it is now making it's way to Sydney where it will be launched Friday July 13th @ Vic On The Park, Marrickville by Sea Life Park, Purplene, and Sodastream all of whom appear on the video. Gota Cola are slated to release their debut album 'Guaranteed Rustless', featuring the new single 'Wavelength's Phase', on August 6th. Prior to the launch the band head down to Sydney and Melbourne for some tour dates during the month of July, then it's back to Brisbane to launch the album on August 4th @ The Zoo with Sea Life Park. Then for the rest of the August the band hit the road nationally with Something For Kate.
The Lucksmiths are currently touring the US until the end of July, which will followed by a brief return to local shores for a two month break before heading over to the United Kingdom and Europe. The band also have a new USA tour 7" vinyl featuring two new tracks, out on Matinee Records and soon to be available locally on Candle Records. The two new songs were recorded by Karl and Pete from Sodastream in Melbourne, shortly after the recent album.
Speedstar have been confirmed to support Alex Lloyd on a large porition of dates during his July national tour. In the meantime the band are currently hard at work recording their next EP in Sydney, with the possibility of being joined a very special guest star on the EP. No release date or title has been announced at this stage.
The Dave Graney Show, after touring the UK and Europe earlier in the year, are set to tour NSW during the month of July to play a series of dates in Sydney and its surrounding areas. These shows will act to showcase their forthcoming studio recording, which is currently recieving the finishing touches. On a related note, member Clare Moore has recently released her solo CD 'The Third Woman' out on Chapter Music.
Secondbest, having recently returned from their tour of Queensland, are now set to play as part of the NSW leg of the Strung Out tour. The band are also set to release a new EP/single in the coming months, which will be the first recording to feature new vocalist Nathan. Bluebottle Kiss release their new EP 'Gangsterland' out on Non Zero/Longshot records come August 13th. The record is predominantly the result of the recordings they did in the US with Jack Endino, coupled with several live recordings. In support of the EP the band will head on a double-header tour with Pollyanna during the month of August. Lastly the band have almost finished recording their forth album, with 14 tracks in total recorded, and hopefully it will recieve a release before the years end.
Eddie Would Go launch their self-titled album, featuring the current single 'January', on Saturday August 4th @ Corner Hotel in Melbourne. The band are also putting the finishing touches on a documentary about their grueling local and overseas touring which goes to air on the ABC on August 24th.

silverchair are producing their next album with David Bottrill, who was responsible for the last two Tool albums. The band have been rehearsing every day since playing Rock In Rio in Brazil in January, and go into pre-production this month, with the recording itself commencing in August. No title or completion date has been announced at this point of time but the record will be released on Eleven Recordings, which is owned by the band's management.
Dave Bridie releases his new EP 'Act Of Free Choice' on July 23rd, which will be accompanied by a series of band and solo dates in late July and early August in support of the release. The title of the EP is a reference to 1969 West Papua sham referendum of the same name, with all royalties from the EP going to West Papuan human rights group ELS-HAM. Also featured on the EP is a live version of the title track, which includes soundgrabs from radio broadcasts when the Indonesian military invaded West Papua, and a remix from Nick Littlemore from Pnau
Beanz Baxter Magazine is holding a benefit gig in Adelaide on July 21st @ The Holdfast Hotel in Glenelg, with The Packets, Margin For Error and Unlearn performing on the night. 'Variations To A Theme' is a forthcoming compilation that sees fifteen Australian electronic based acts doing club renditions of old TV themes from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Arists on the compilation include Wicked Beat Sound System, The Hive, Brewster B and Pound System who will be reworking the themes of classic television shows such as Charlie's Angels, Starksy and Hutch, Bewitched and Welcome Back Kotter. While the record isn't due out till August the first single entitled 'Creepin' has been released, which sees Fatt Dex anc MC Trey teaming up to pay tribute to the hit 80s show Knight Rider.
Full Fathom Five are slated to release their debut album '07 Seven', featuring 'Who's Your Daddy?' and the forthcoming single 'Anxiety', on August 13th out on the Valve label. In the meantime the band are playing around the traps in Brisbane, including two shows supporting Alex Llyod.
Ruteger now have their debut album 'Stuffed Animal Parade' in-stores out on Robot/MGM, and are going to be launching said album on Wednesday August 1st @ The 9th Ward with P76, Alcotomic and Groundswell. The album contains 10 songs and was mixed by Matt Maddock (Something For Kate) & Michael Alonso (Living End).
The Beautiful Few from Melbourne will be releasing their second album entitled 'Something To Do, Someone To Love, Something To Look Forward Too' out on Big Rig Records. No release date has been announced at this stage but the band will be playing gigs in Melbourne and Adelaide throughout July.
The Gold Coast trio the Neo Creepers are set to launch their self-titled debut EP on Friday July 13th @ The Gabba Hotel with supporting coming from Melbourne band Fez Perez (ex Fireballs & Luxedo) and local psychobilly outfit Gasoline. The time leading up to the release of their debut has seen the punk/psychobilly outfit completing a tour to Melbourne and doing support slots with Sydney's Porkers and American swingsters Royal Crown Revue.
Sodastream are releasing a 4 track EP later in the year, currently estimated for a November release, out on Candle Records. The band are also re-releasing their 1997 debut EP 'Enjoy', which will be an extremely limited release featuring hand stitched covers, as well their 'Turnstyle' 7" that features 2 tracks not available on any other release, and both of these releases will be available through Candle Records.

Killing Heidi have just returned from a few weeks rehearsing in a rented house in the beach side suburb of Sorrento to commence pre-production on the follow up to their debut album 'Reflector'. The band shall be working once again with producer Paul Kosky, responsible for the production of their debut, after turning down the offer from their American label 3:33 to work with a top name US producer.Adelaide punk band, STR, are only days away from recording their long awaited debut EP. To be titled 'When Words Fail', the six track EP will be released through Strategy Records in early September. To coincide with its release the band will then be heading up the East coast to launch it in Melbourne and Sydney.

Art Of Fighting having just finished touring with Augie March, playing the final show at The Zoo in Brisbane, are now set to hit the road once again in early July supporting ex-Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus. Pound System have completed work on their new album titled 'You Know It Makes Sense', which is slated for a July 9th release. Currently the band are in the midst of remixing a song for the new Sonic Animation single 'e-ville', as well as overseeing the recording of the new Rocket Science album at Bangin' Studios.
Gerling are set to tour Japan this month as part of the Fuji rock festival, and this coincides with their recent addition to Sony Japan's roster. Their first local release in Japan will be their forthcoming album 'When Young Terrorists Chase the Sun', currently slated for an Australian release on September 17th. In the mean time the band will release the new single 'Dust Me Selecta', featuring guest vocalist Inga Liljestrom and two remixes, on July 30th.
The Fergs are currently in the studio putting the finishing touches to their debut album due out in August through Pharmacy Records. In the meantime the band are playing a show with Registered Nurse @ The Punters Club on Saturday July 7th with special guests Stutz.
Icecream Hands release their new CD EP 'Rain Hail Shine', which features the track of the same name plus four bonus tracks, on July 2nd out on the Rubber Records label. In support of its release the band are taking to the road for an east coast tour from late July and carrying through till early August.
High Pass Filter tour north this month performing in Sydney on Sat July 14 @ Newtown RSL with Ubin, Gota Cola, Ukiyo-E and Meem and then Brisbane on Sun July 15 as part of Valley Fiesta, a three day music, art, food, fun and fashion event in the Fortitude Valley. This tour coincides with the re-release of their long deleted EP 'Audio Forensic', featuring new artwork and a bonus track previously only available a long deleted 7" single. The band are also in the midst of recording their debut album, with five tracks mixed so far and the rest to be completed around the middle of August.
Addiction 64 are back in the studio recording three more tracks for their debut album '...Corrupt and Immoral', which should be finished in August and released later in the year. The band are also playing an all ages show on Friday July 6th @ Emerald Townhall with The Lads, Antiskeptic and Sounds Like Chicken.

Re-fashioned, a compilation put out by Groovescooter of Australian & N.Z classics from the 70s and 80s that have been electronically remodelled by some of today's underground electronic/dance producers such as faTT deX, MEEM, Sobriquet, Other People's Children, Itchee & Scratchee's Andy Rantzen and so on, will be launched in Melbourne on Saturday July 7th @ Club UK, located at 169 Exhibition St. Appearing on the night will Sobriquet and Other Peoples' Children live, plus DJ Dan, Toupee & E.
Regurgitator head out on the road during the months of August and September, under the banner of the Canon Fodder Tour 2001, to launch their new album 'Eduardo & Rodriguez Wage War on T-wrecks' that arrives in stores July 16th. The tour kicks off upon their return from Japan's Fuji Rock Festival at the end of July, and finishes in time to commence a German/European tour to coincide with the release of the new album there in September. Again this tour will see them operating as a 3 piece, with the odd guest appearance helping them on stage, and national support coming from Gerling.
George have finished tracking their debut album at Mangrove Studios are now currently in Byron Bay, where they shall spend the next month, recording the album using a mobile studio. 1200 Techniques are heading north in July to launch their debut single 'Hard As Hell' in Sydney, after having launched it in Melbourne last month and toured nationally with Linkin Park in May. Something For Kate have announced they will hit the road throughout August in support of their third album 'Echolalia', on the aptly titled Echolalia Tour. Kicking off in Canberra on August 8th and concluding in Brisbane on the 31st of the month, the tour will take in all mainland state capitals and a couple of key regional centres. Tickets for the tour will be on sale from July 2nd and special guests for each date will soon be announced.

Silver Ray, after a year of teasing Melbourne with special 'radio only' releases and an array of magnificent live shows, will launch their long awaited debut album 'This is Silver Ray' on Sunday July 1st at The Corner Hotel, Richmond with special guests Registered Nurse and Sir. Joining Silver Ray on the night will be the "Shadows of Love" horn section and Chris Chappell will be spinning between sets. The album is out now through Pharmacy Records.
Architecture In Helsinki, the self-proclaimed 'minimal love pop ensemble' harking from Melbourne, will perform their last show for 2001 on Tuesday July 3rd at the Carlton Courthouse Theatre. Also playing on the night will be Sodastream and .3, a new band featuring members of Light's Surpising Constancy, Parlour and 2 Litre Dolby. One Dollar Short hit the studio next week to commence recording 5 new tracks for their new EP entitled 'Press and Hold', due out later this year. After the recording the boys are taking a break before heading out on the road with Bodyjar in August.
The Titanics, once a forth piece, are now a three piece with the recent departure of Glenn Thompson one of the founding members. The band have been showcasing the new lineup in Sydney over the past two weeks and are now set to trek down to Canberra to play Thursday, June 28th at the Anu Bar. The band are also sporting a new t-shirt design available for purchase.

The band will be returning to Sydney in July 20 - 21st supporting Glenn Richards of Augie March at his solo shows at the Hopetoun, and this will coincide with the release of their split 7" with Braving The Seabed due out late July.
Warped are set to film the clip for their new radio single 'Lady Lack' at The Mercury Lounge in Melbourne in the coming weeks, with the track itself going to air late July. The album 'On The Make' is due for a September release, and will mark their first album since their debut of many years ago.

The Bendigo three-piece will be launching the new 10 track album in Melbourne and Victoria throughout late June and the month of July.
Cartwheel have finished recording their new 7", which is being pressed in Europe and released on Saint James label. Limited copies will be available from good record stores or on their website, and the band will be launching the release in Melbourne in the coming months.
Miles From Nowhere hit the studio come late July to commence pre-production for their full length album, to be recorded over the coming months, however until then the band will playing consistently around Brisbane and its neighbouring regions.

Sydney station FBi were amongst one of the three Sydney stations to be granted community radio licences by the ABA early this month. The station is committed to playing fifty percent Australian music, and half of that consists of local Sydney artists. It will be a few months before they go to air on 94.5FM, with much funding needed to be raised to make the station financially sustainable. Meanwhile Darren is adding the final touches to his 'Video Store' 7-inch to be released by Steady Cam Records in late July, which features two exclusive tracks, Video Night Sleep Over and a reworking of Video Store featuring backing vocals courtesy of Lee from Sea Life Park. It will be limited to only 500 copies and the first 100 with an exclusive button badge.
You Am I are set to tour nationally once again, having done traipsed around the country earlier in the year in support of their new album. Taking place in the month of July, the tour will see them joined by special guests The Strokes direct from New York City, and will also coincide with the release of their next single 'Kick A Whole In The Sky'. The Mark Of Cain hit the road throughout July for their first national tour in over three years, with H-Block 101 supporting for most of the shows. The tour is in support of their new album 'This Is This...' that arrived in stores this month, and will be the first tour to showcase the talents of former Helmet member John Stanier joining the line-up on drums. The band will also appear on Triple J's Live At The Wireless on Monday 25th June from 9pm.

Sneeze's third album, entitled 'Lost The Spirit To Rock & Roll', arrived in the stores early this month out on the Half A Cow label. A double vinyl version of the album will be available shortly, containing an additional six tracks. The album was recorded over nearly a three year period starting in May '98, then mixed by Rob Taylor, Wayne Connolly and David Coulthard-Clarke. Art Of Fighting have scored the support slot on the upcoming tour from ex-Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus who tours here in July, with the band performing at all shows with exception of the Splendour in the Grass Festival. Blueline Medic have just signed to new independent label Redline Records, which will releasing the band's debut album 'The Apology Wars' in July. The album was recorded in the USA at Washington DC's Inner Ear studio, with producer J Robbins (Jawbox, Texas Is The Reason, Burning Airlines). The band will be launching the album during July in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra, with a full national to tour to follow in August.
Area 7 have finally stepped out of the studio with producer Kalju Tonuma (28 Days, Superheist and Bodyjar) and are set to release the first single 'Leave Me Alone', taken their forthcoming second album, come July 9th. In support its release the band will be performing shows along the east coast and in Adelaide during late July.
George release their new single, 'Special Ones', on June 18th through their new home at Festival Mushroom. Currently the band are undertaking the pre-production work for the recording of the debut album, which will be recorded at Mangrove Studios. Recording is expected to take a good three months, with the album tentatively slated for February 2002. The band have also been added with to the bill for the Splendour in the Grass Festival with the recent withdrawal of the John Butler Trio.
Nunchukka Superfly, with Ray & Blackie having just finished up touring Europe and UK with their other band The Hard-Ons, are set to hit the road in support of their new album 'There Are No Accidents... Just Fuckwits!'. Spanning late June until late August, the tour takes in shows along the east-coast and in Adelaide.
The Vitals are a new Sydney punk/alternative outfit featuring Rod Yates (ex-Henry's Anger), Damian Coward & Matt Hunt (both ex-Hindsight) and Jon Collison (ex-Travesty Star). They play their first ever show on July 27th in Sydney at the Excelsior Hotel supporting Cog. Superheist, after the success of their national "Recruiting Drive 2001" tour, are now set to do it all again but this time for their under 18's fans as part of their "All Ages Recruiting Drive 2001" tour. The tour kicked off the weekend past and continues until late July when it finishes with their appearance at the Splendour In The Grass Festival.

Disaster Plan have just released the radio only promo track 'To Travel Alone', taken from their forthcoming album 'Disaster Plan Party!'. The album was recorded live to stereo mics at a shack in Muskvale, early this year with a dozen musicians perform on this track, and 17 tracks in total recorded over the span of a single weekend. The album, being their forth, is slated for an August release date.
Machine Translations launch their new album 'Bad Shapes' in Melbourne on Friday June 29th at the Corner Hotel, with supports from Sodastream and Kirsty Stegwazi. This will be their first full band gig in Melbourne in over a year, and possibly their only show before heading off to America and Europe in late July/August, with two overseas gigs confirmed already in Chicago and in London.
The Ruck Rover duo having finished their May residency at the Corner Hotel, are set to now commence recording their second album next week, which is expected for release later this year. Then in the months of July and August they will return for a 2 month residency at the Corner Hotel.
X, certainly one of Australia's most seminal bands forming twenty-four years ago, are to set return to Sydney for one show only on Saturday June 23rd @ Newtown RSL with Nunchukka Superfly & Box Freezer Romance. This rare show will be in support of the Australian only release of the 'Live At The Civic '79' CD, which back then was recorded for Sydney station 2JJ.
Ukiyo-e release their debut six track mini-album entitled 'Inland' on July 16th out on Trifekta. The mini-album was recorded by Matt Maddock and Steve Foster at Mixmaster Studios in Adelaide earlier this year. A remix release is also currently in the pipeline.
The Kicksilvers are a new band featuring Caroline Kennedy, Peter McCracken, Jane McCracken and Shamus Goble. They have just released their debut self-titled EP, which was recorded in March this year, featuring 3 songs co-written by Caroline and Pete. The CD is currently available from Polyester Records in Melbourne, with other indie record stores soon to follow suite.
The Beings are set to performing as part of the second annual Fitzroy and Collingwood music festival called Winter 2C, playing Saturday June 23rd @ Empress with Snout & Registered Nurse. The Mark of Cain release their forth studio album 'This Is This...' on Monday June 11th, which will mark their first new album in five years since the album 'Ill At Ease'. The album was recorded in Sydney, Adelaide and London, with production input from Phil McKellar (Grinspoon, The Cruel Sea) and Andy Gill (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bis, The Jesus Lizard). Preceding the release of the album will be a promotional single of the lead track, 'Familiar Territory'. The band will hit the road throughout July for an extensive national tour in support of the album.
Darren Hanlon after touring with Augie March and Magnetic Fields is set to embark on his own headline tour of Australia from late June till mid July. The tour will see him play small and intimate venues throughout the country and it will probably be his only headline tour of Australia this year. After the tour he will finish off his new 7" single and start work on his album.
Regurgitator kick off their national tour on Thursday May 31st in Byron Bay, in support of the first single 'Fat Cop' taken from their forthcoming album 'Eduardo & Rodriguez Wage War On T-Wrecks'.
