Level Two Swimming
Specific Coaching Course

The Level Two ‘Swimming Specific’ Coaches Course is
designed for the coach who has already established sound practical and
theoretical knowledge of the sport of swimming. This course covers additional
topics which will further develop coaching skills, Level Two is a more demanding
course which will introduce coaches to various aspects of the sport sciences and
their application to coaching.
COACHING ACCREDITATION REQUIREMENTS
All Level Two candidates have a four year period (i.e
two years before/after the Level 2 Swimming Specific Course) to fulfill the
following requirements of the Level Two Coaching Accreditation for Swimming.
Candidates applying for accreditation through the Australian
Coaching Council and Australian Swimming Inc. as a Level Two - ‘Skills’
Coach must complete criteria 1 through 5. Candidates wishing to register as a
Level Two - ‘Performance’ Coach must complete item six (6) of the criteria.
1. Must be a currently accredited Level One Swimming Coach
under the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme of Australian Swimming Inc
and Australian Coaching Council.
Note: Level One Masters Accreditation is
not accepted.
2. Must have coached for at least two (2) years, with a
minimum of two hundred and fifty (250) hours of ‘contact time’ per year
with a ‘squad’ of swimmers.
Note:
‘Contact
Time’ means training time, which may include pool, gym, or other fitness
programs.
‘Squad’ consists of ten (10) or more swimmers.
3. The course is offered in two sections. Each section of
the course may be taken in any order. Each section of the course must be
completed.
a) a general "Coaching Principles’ course of not
less than thirty (30) hours instruction which is approved by the ACC (See
attached brochure)
b) ‘Swimming Specific’ course, of not less than thirty
hours of instruction. (Victorian Course – 3 & 4 and 10 & 11 July
registration form attached)
Candidates must complete the assessment paper in order to
receive credit for the ‘Swimming Specific’ course component.
To receive accreditation 100% attendance at both sections of
the course is required.
4. Must hold a current CPR qualification from an
organisation recognised by the Australian Resuscitation Council.
5. Must be a current member of the Australian Swimming
Coaches & Teachers Association (ASCTA).
6. Level Two - ‘Performance’
Coaches ONLY
Candidates must complete the ‘Coaching Performance
Requirements’ for accreditation as a ‘Level Two - Performance’ Coach.
Only one of the following four performance options must be satisfied. All
options require that the candidate is the ‘primary coach’ of swimmers
achieving any of the following standards:
Options
1) five individual swimmers who achieve one or more
National Age Qualifying times (times must be done at State Association Meets
where automatic timing has been used), or
2) three individual swimmers who reach respective State
Age or Open Championship finals with a time at least equal to the National
Age Qualifying time for that event and then go on to compete in that event
at the Age or Open Championship (in that same year) under the direction of
the Primary Coach, or
3) two individual swimmers who have reached the finals of
the National Age or Open Championships; or
4) one or more swimmers with a disability who compete
regularly in local competitions (these may be able bodied or disabled
competitions) and who has represented Australia at a recognised
international disabled competition
Gaining Credit for the Level Two ‘Swimming
Specific’ Course
Coaches attending the Level Two Course can do so for:
- Level One & Two Accreditation Update.
- Level Two Accreditation. Candidates can now receive Level Two
accreditation as either:
- Level Two - ‘Skills Coach’
b. Level Two - ‘Performance Coach’
The Level Two - ‘Skills’ Accreditation acknowledges that
the Coach has completed basic theory and the minimum period of practical
experience, at the Level Two coaching standard. In addition to the ‘Skills’
accreditation, the Level Two - ‘Performance’ accreditation, also
acknowledges that the coach has trained swimmers to particular performance
levels.

Refunds and Cancellations
Refunds are only given where notice of cancellation of
enrolment is given in writing 7 days before the commencement of the course. An
administration fee of $20 will be deducted from the payment. No refunds are
granted if cancellation information is not received prior to the course
commencing.
Courses are subject to minimum numbers and may need to be
cancelled if numbers are insufficient. Should this be necessary you will be
notified as early as possible. The full fee refund, or priority booking for the
next course will be granted if cancellation is necessary.
