BEECHWORTH, QUEEN VICTORIA GARDENS
|
Queen Victoria Gardens, were first established 1858. The Beechworth Council, assisted by the Central Board of Health secured a public garden reserve of eighteen acres. The gardens are significant for their association with the development of the historic town of Beechworth and contain a number of rare tree species, some the only known examples to exist in Victoria. |
The grant of $50,000 will be used for the enhancement of the gardens through planting, and the restoration of pathways |

CASTLEMAINE SCHOOL OF MINES |
The foundation stone for the School of Mines, Castlemaine was laid on 18 December 1889. The building is significant for its association with notable architect W.C. Vahland of Bendigo, and as a representative example of the provision of technical education for men and women at a time when post primary education was not generally available. |
The grant of $75,000 will be used for roof and façade repairs and internal refurbishment, to ensure the continued use of the building by community groups. |

CASTLEMAINE, TUTE’S COTTAGE |
Tute’s Cottage was constructed during the 1850s and is significant for its association with the gold rush – a key event in Victoria’s history and a defining moment in the development of Australia’s character and culture. From 1855, gold miners were entitled to a small portion of land for a house and garden under the terms of the ‘Miner’s Right’. Tute’s Cottage was occupied under this right until 1996 |
The grant of $15,000 will be used for roof repairs and drainage works. |

CHILTERN OLD POLICE LOCK UP
|
The Old Police Lock Up, Chiltern is located in Crawford Street, Chiltern. It was constructed in 1873 and is part of a complex that also includes the former police residence. The lock-up at Chiltern is symbolic of the role law and order played on the gold fields. |
The grant of $30,000 will be used for the implementation of stormwater drainage, roof and brickwork repairs and interpretation of the building’s history. |

CLUNES FORMER SCHOOL OF MINES |
Constructed in the 1870’s, the former School of Mines in Clunes was originally used for research into mining technology. It is significant for its association with the Victorian gold rush, particularly as Clunes was the first place where gold was discovered in Victoria in the 1850s. |
The grant of $35,000 will be used for structural stabilisation works. |

Constructed in 1876, this building is historically significant for its association with the development of Creswick following the discovery of gold in the area in 1872. It is currently occupied by the Creswick Historical Museum. |

DIMBOOLA, LOWAN SHIRE HALL
|
The Dimboola Shire Hall (formerly known as the Lowan Shire Hall), is located in Lloyd Street, Dimboola. The hall was built in 1876-77 and is significant for its association with the development of municipal administration in the vast Wimmera region. It is the oldest shire hall erected in the Wimmera and is now used as a community meeting place. |
The grant of $13,000 will be used for structural repairs, which will ensure the continued use of the hall by the local community.

EAGLEHAWK COURT HOUSE |
Eaglehawk Court was built in 1869 to the design of Public Works Department architects and replaced an earlier timber building. It is significant for its elaborate use of brickwork and for the qualities of design displayed in the façade. Eaglehawk Court House is positioned within an intact precinct of 19th century civic buildings. |
The grant of $20,000 will be used for repair works to roof and ceiling. |

ECHUCA, FORMER ENGINE SHED:
|
The former Engine Shed is situated at 116 Sturt Street, Echuca. The shed was built in 1864 by J Walker as part of the Echuca Railway Station Complex, and is commonly known as the Loco Shed. The railway complex at Echuca is associated with the economic development/gold rush of Victoria. |
The grant of $300,000 will be used to re-instate roof slates and for urgent weatherproofing. The building will be refurbished and linked to the Port of Echuca tourist complex.

ELDORADO DREDGE
|
The dredge is situated south-west of the township of Eldorado, 10 miles from Wangaratta. Construction of the dredge commenced in 1935, the largest dredge of its kind in Australia. |
The grant of $12,000 will be used for the replacement of two timber struts that are in danger of collapsing.

FOOTSCRAY DRILL HALL
|
The Footscray Drill Hall, located at the corner of Barkly and Gordon Streets, Footscray, was built in 1913. Following federation, the various colonial armed forces became the responsibility of the Commonwealth. From 1911 to 1929, a scheme of compulsory military training was put in place, and drill halls were constructed around the country as a place to train. Footscray Drill Hall is one of sixteen such halls left in Victoria. |
The grant of $70, 000 will be used for the repair of stumps and flooring, roofing, guttering and downpipes. This will ensure the continued use of the building.

FOOTSCRAY PARK,
ALFRED GREEN FOUNTAIN & THOMPSON WATER GARDEN
|
The Alfred Green Fountain and the Thompson Water Garden are both located in Footscray Park, Ballarat Road, Footscray. Footscray Park was permanently reserved in 1911 as a site for a Public Park and its creation was largely due to the efforts of the citizens of Footscray who successfully lobbied the State Government and the Victorian Racing Club for the reservation of the park. It is the largest and most intact Edwardian period garden in Victoria. The Thompson Water Gardens were constructed by local men under the "Employment Relief Works" during the Great Depression. The lake has been leaking water, resulting in the need to regularly top it up. The Alfred Green Fountain, which features two platypuses, has not been working for some time |
The grant of $160,000 will be used for the repair of the Alfred Green Fountain and for drainage rectification works to the Thompson Water Garden. The works will also reconstruct the fern gully on the western side |

HEIDELBERG PRIMARY SCHOOL - CARETAKERS RESIDENCE
|
The former Caretaker’s Residence, located in Cape Street Heidelberg, was built in 1877, and was designed by Department of education Architect Henry Bastow. A school building built also in 1877, was replaced in 1923 and the residence is the only recognisable remnant from this building activity. It is a rare example of a metropolitan school residence. |
The grant of $50,000 will be used for a complete refurbishment to the residence. This will allow the building to be used as a music centre.

KANIVA SHIRE HALL
|
Kaniva Shire Hall, located at the corner of Commercial and Baker Streets, Kaniva, was constructed in 1928. The hall has been used regularly for such occasions as dances, cabarets, concerts and conventions. Over recent years the condition of the hall has deteriorated. |
The grant of $60,000 will be used for stabilisation works to the ceiling and roof. This will ensure the continued use by community. |

KOONDROOK, CONDIDORIO’S BRIDGE
|
Condidorio's Bridge is located at the corner of Gunbower Parade and Island road in Koondrook. The timber bridge was built in 1906 and was used to connect the timber and farming areas of Gunbower Island to Koondrook and then to the steam tramway to Kerang and the State rail network. |
The grant of $50,000 will make a significant contribution towards the full reinstatement of the bridge, which will enable it to be used again.

KYABRAM TOWN HALL
|
The Kyabram Town Hall, built in 1891, was originally to be used as the Mechanics Institute. The hall is intimately associated with the history and development of the town of Kyabram. Over time the façade has been damaged. |
The grant of $30,000 will be used for the refurbishment and repair of the façade.

LALOR, MALTZAHN’S FARM HOUSE
|
Maltzahn’s Farmhouse, located at 127 Gardenia Road, Lalor, was constructed in the 1850s. It is one of few farmhouses that remain from the former Westgarthtown, one of a number of German Lutheran Settlements established in Victoria in the middle of last century.. The farmhouse was constructed by Johann Christian Maltzahn, an early settler to the area. Maltzahn’s farmhouse was occupied at least well into the 1960s, but only the walls now remain. |
The grant of $216,000 will be used for the reconstruction of the house, and will include a new roof, floor, stonework repairs and damp-proofing, installation of windows and doors. This will enable the building to be utilised once again.

LINTON FREE LIBRARY
|
The Linton Free Library, located in Sussex Street, Linton, was built in 1865. The money to build this library, known then as the ‘reading room’, was raised by the local community through concerts, recitals and picnics. The Linton Library continued to operate until Grenville Shire (as it was then known) joined the Central Highlands Regional Library Scheme in the 1970s, and a mobile library took over the role. Since then, the building has been used for public meetings. |
The grant of $10,000 will be used for termite elimination and rectification of the sub-floor structure. This will ensure the continued use of the building by the historical society.

MALDON FORMER COURT HOUSE |
The first court house in Maldon was constructed in 1857, but the timber fittings were too big for the building, there was no room for the public. By 1860, plans for a new brick court house had been drawn up. Works were completed in 1861, however the court house was closed in 1968-69. The building now forms part of the important townscape of Maldon |
The grant of $30,000 will be used for Stormwater drainage rectification, wall damp elimination and roof repairs. This will enable the continued use of the building by Maldon Museum and Archives. |

MARYBOROUGH MUNICIPAL OLYMPIC SWIMMING COMPLEX |
The Olympic Swimming Complex at Maryborough was opened by Sir Frank Beaurepaire in 1940. It is significant for its illustration of the development of modern, safe and hygienic swimming facilities in Victoria during the inter-war period. |
The grant of $171,725 will be used for structural stabilisation and internal and external repairs. |

MELBOURNE, MISSIONS TO SEAMEN BUILDING
|
The Mission to Seamen building is located at 717 Flinders Street, Melbourne. The building was constructed in 1916 for the Victorian Missions to Seamen, an institute that sought to better the spiritual life of sailors through personal contact and the holding of services in the sailor’s church. |
The grant of $300,000 will be used for drainage rectification, repairs and refurbishment works. This will enable the building to be fully utilised once again.

MELBOURNE, STATE LIBRARY OF VICTORIA
|
The State Library of Victoria, located in Swanston Street, Melbourne, was designed by the renowned architect Joseph Reed. Governor La Trobe initiated the establishment of the library, and in 1854 building works commenced and it was completed in several stages. |
The grant of $800,000 will be used for the conservation, repair and cleaning of stonework to the facade. Roof repairs include replacement of slate roof to the portico. This will prevent further damage to the stonework. |

MORNINGTON, FORMER POST AND TELEGRAPH OFFICE
|
The former Mornington Post and Telegraph Office was built in 1860. The building is currently used as a museum and the headquarters for the Mornington Historical Society, who has occupied the building for thirty years. |
The grant of $30,000 will be used for structural restoration to the building. These works will preserve and enhance the historical significance of the building as well as ensuring its continued use by the Mornington Historical Society. |

PORT PHILLIP BAY, S.S. CITY OF LAUNCESTON
|
The City of Launceston (1863-1865), is situated beneath twenty-two metres of water in Port Phillip Bay. Its early role in colonial steam shipping was the forerunner of the modern Bass Strait ferry service between Tasmania and Victoria. On the 19th November 1865, two hours after its 7.20pm departure from Melbourne to Launceston the ship was involved in a collision with the inbound SS Penola from Adelaide. The twenty-five passengers and twenty-four crew were rescued by the Penola before the City of Launceston sank. |
The grant of $60,000 will be used for the excavation of the deck and the conservation of the artefacts found, enabling full interpretation of the nature of passenger travel in the 1860s.

Romsey Mechanics Institute is located at 122 Main Street, Romsey. It is the only public hall in Romsey and is extensively used by local community groups. |

ROYAL PARK, FORMER ANZAC HALL
|
Anzac Hall is located in Brens Drive, Melbourne and was built in late 1940 or early 1941 on behalf of the RSL for use as a cinema and recreational hall for troops at Royal Park. It is historically significant for its association with the entertainment of troops during the Second World War and with the benevolent role of the RSL in providing welfare and comforts to service personnel. The Hall has been used by the City of Melbourne since 1958 for community uses including the Urban Camp Program, which provides accommodation for country school children visiting Melbourne. |
The grant of $150,000 will be used for the restoration of the hall and overall improvements to the facility.

ROYAL PARK, ROYAL MELBOURNE ZOOLOGICAL PARKS AND GARDENS: ZOO CAROUSEL
|
The Zoo Carousel is situated within the Royal Melbourne Zoological Parks and Gardens in Parkville. The Zoological Society of Victoria was established in 1857 and moved to its current location in Royal Park in 1860.. The zoo carousel is perhaps one of the oldest in Australia and ranks highly when compared with international examples. |
The grant of $200,000 will be used for immediate repairs to the structural and mechanical elements and refurbishment of the decorative features. This will enable the carousel to be put back into working order and will ensure the survival of this important structure.

RUSHWORTH SHIRE HALL
|
Rushworth Shire Hall is located in High Street, Rushworth. It was built in two main phases, 1868 and 1883. It is significant for its association with the development of Rushworth as an important gold mining town and was built to serve the Shire of Waranga and as a public hall for community activities. In 1928 the hall was used as a picture theatre. |
The grant of $130,000 will be used for render and roof repairs and storm water drainage. This will ensure that the building can continue to serve the local community.

SANDRINGHAM ROTUNDA
|
The Sandringham Rotunda, located at the Beach Road and Melrose Street intersection, was built in 1926. The structure forms a focal point for the area, and is something of a local landmark. The rotunda is historically significant for its associations with W.T. Sunderland, the local city engineer that designed the rotunda, as well as many other buildings in Sandringham. |
The grant of $60,000 will be used for stabilisation works to limit maintenance requirements. This will help to ensure that the building withstands the effect of such an exposed location. The rotunda is a critical element to the coastal and village landscape of Sandringham and the grant will enable its survival.

TRENTHAM, FORMER POLICE STATION LOCK UP |
The former Police Station Complex consists of two timber lock-ups, police stables and an office, and is currently managed by the Trentham Historical Society. The older of the two lock ups is a rare, prefabricated portable lock up, one of five left in Victoria. |
The grant of $15,000 will be used for damp treatment to ensure the preservation of this rare structure. |

WALKERVILLE LIME KILNS
|
The Walkerville Lime Kilns, located at Waratah Bay in Walkerville, contain six stone and brick kilns that were built in 1875 The kilns were closed in 1926, but remain well preserved and are historically significant for their association with an important industry in early Victoria. The kilns were the sole industry of the town of Walkerville. The slopes around the kilns are covered with the remains of workers’ cottages dating from the 1880s. |
The grant of $15,000 will be used for urgent stabilisation works. This will ensure the preservation of an important part of Victoria’s industrial history.

WARRAMBINE HALL
|
The bluestone Shire Hall at Warrambine was built in 1872. It was used as a shire hall up until the 1960s. The building is owned by Golden Plains Shire Council and is used from time to time for council purposes. |
The grant of $8,000 will be used for external repairs, and the installation of a small kitchen to enable more frequent use of the building. This will help to ensure the continued use of the hall for community purposes |

YARRAWONGA SHIRE HALL
|
The Yarrawonga Shire Hall was built in 1929 and is a major performing arts and entertainment centre for the local community. The hall has had a variety of uses during its time and is renowned for its acoustics and reputedly has the largest stage in country Victoria. The hall is regularly used for concerts, balls, presentation nights and weddings. Over recent years the original ballroom floor has deteriorated to the point of it being viewed as a safety hazard. |
The grant of $50,000 will be used for the replacement of the flooring in the original ballroom. This will enable the continued use of the use for a wide range of community gatherings.
