About the Alick Jackomos Collection


The Library provides information and research services to the staff of Aboriginal Affairs Victoria and the Department of Planning and Community Development. The collection reflects their research needs, topics include:
  • Archaeology
  • Cultural heritage
  • Land management and natural resource management
  • Victorian and Australian regional and local histories
  • Indigenous histories and biographies
  • Flora and fauna identification resources
  • Native title and land rights
  • Indigenous contemporary issues and
  • Government policy and administration and
  • Community development and planning

About Alick Jackomos


Alick Jackomos (1924-1999) was a friend of, and advocate for, Aboriginal people all his working life. In addition he was an author, raconteur, genealogist and collector of stories and memorabilia. In 1999 in the presence of Alick's family and friends, Aboriginal Affairs Victoria's Resource Centre was renamed the ‘Alick Jackomos Library’. Where is the Alick Jackomos Pictorial Collection?


The Alick Jackomos pictorial collection is held at the Linked page opens in a new windowAudiovisual Archives at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) in Canberra. All requests relating to access or use of images from this collection must be directed to the Institute.
