The Modelling and Simulation Group focuses on computer based modelling
techniques of as means of understanding real world problems.
The domain of the group is the construction and simulation of
computer based models of scientific, engineering, economic, financial, Management
and social systems and assimilation of knowledge in this area. These models are critical to the understanding of complex
systems, and for the comprehension of large complex data sets. Computer based models
are extensively used in the analysis, predication and control of systems from
a wide range of disciplines. There is a trend for even greater use of such
models in an even wider range of disciplines. This research group focuses on
the critical issues of the use of computer based models for understanding
complex systems; the construction of models; their implementation on computers;
their simulation; and, the interpretation and presentation of the results.
The central, and intertwined issues, are how computer based models can be
used in the analysis of real world problems; how such models can be used to
mine information from large complex data sets; and, the use of such models
for forecasting and decision making.
