In these 13 broadcasts we present the highlights of the Alfred Deakin
Lectures, delivered by 53 speakers gathered in Melbourne as part
of a special Melbourne Festival coinciding with the first sitting
of the Commonwealth Parliament a century ago. These scientists,
environmentalists, architects, philosophers, jurists, historians,
economists, politicians, writers, humanitarians and sports people,
all leaders in their field, honour the Deakin legacy, his role as
nation-builder and his openness to the world of ideas.
