ALP News StatementsACT Launch Of Kahootz 3d Multimedia Tool
Media Statement - 22nd July, 2004
Minister for Education and Training Ms Katy Gallagher MLA, will tomorrow (THURSDAY) launch Kahootz, an exciting software package developed by the Australian Children's Television Foundation, making it available to all ACT Government primary and high schools. The ACT is the first Australian State or Territory to officially launch the Kahootz software for use in schools.
Kahootz is a set of 3D multimedia tools combining a CD-ROM and an active online community. Kahootz students and teachers can publish their work and exchange, share, collaborate and explore with other schools in the Kahootz around the world.
"Kahootz is an exciting approach to teaching and learning that allows students and teachers to be designers, inventors and storytellers using a set of 3D effect tools that enable students to develop their own 3D multimedia creations".
"The Government is particularly pleased to be providing Canberra's students and teachers with high quality Australian software, and we congratulate its developers at the Australian Children's Television Foundation," Ms Gallagher said.
"This initiative is supported by the Government's strong focus on ICT, having allocated $11 million in the 2004/05 budget for Canberra schools."
Jenny Buckland, Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Children's Television Foundation, stated "The Kahootz functions are simple, transparent and intuitive, ensuring that all students can participate in the community. Already in our trial schools, students from non-English speaking backgrounds, or with learning disabilities, or in remote areas are using Kahootz in compelling and innovative ways, and exchanging their work and ideas with others," Ms Buckland concluded.
The Australian Children's Television Foundation is a national non-profit organisation, created to encourage development, production and dissemination of high quality television programmes, films and other audiovisual media for children.
