Hi there Mr Gleitzman

its Danielle here I go to Millner Primary School and I'm in year six. i've only read your book adults only but its great i think you should make a movie and if you do i could act as Gwen or Mable. that is if you want me to, but i don't think you would. my hair is kind of like Mable's or Gwen's and I'm turning 11 this year on june 1st. i would be great for the part and you could dye my hair the right colour if you wish. my mum just read chapters 11 & 12 and said i'd be good for the part.

Hi,

My name's Jade. I live in the Ipswich area just outside of Brisbane.(In Australia!) I go to Westside Christian College and I'm 13 this year. Where abouts in the world are you at?

I love all your books! I think I've read all but two. My favourite ones are definitely Sticky Beak, Blabber Mouth and Gift of the Gab. Oh yeah and also Toad Rage! I love your style of writing. You don't just bore everyone with something that's going nowhere! How do you come up with the ideas for your books?

I think it's really cruel in the bookshelf! I was reading the exciting bit in Toad Heaven and then it gets cut off!!!!

Oh well, I'd better get going,

I hope that you'll be ably to reply, if not I understand.

Cya
Jade

Dear Jade

Sorry the bookshelf's a bit cruel, but my publishers won't let me put whole books on there. They said if I do they'll drag me outside and drive a truck over me. I've never been sure how I come up with the ideas for my books – they just sort of hit me when I'm daydreaming. I live in the Dandenong Ranges, just outside Melbourne, which is a good place for daydreaming.

Best wishes and happy reading

Our teacher, Mrs Rabjohns has just finished reading "Toad Rage" to our year five class. We thought your book about the adventures of Limpy and Goliath was TOADALLY COOL! We laughed so much it was the best part of the school day. We know all about placemats on the road as we are from Mackay where the cane toad was introduced.

Our favourite character was Goliath. He was all braun and no brains! During maths we discussed our favourite parts of the story. We recorded our data onto a graph. The most popular part of the story was when Goliath thought he was tough enough to take out a car with his stick. We admired Limpy for his bravery and determination to find out why humans really hate cane toads.

We enjoyed listening to your audio of "Toad Rage" on your website. We loved the cane toad music at the beginning. We cannot wait until Mrs Rabjohns starts reading "Toad Heaven" to us. We hope it is just as good as "Toad Rage". No, even better!

Here's hopping to hear from you,
Year 5AR

Dear Year 5AR

Sorry you've had to wart so long, I mean wait so long to hear back from me. I'm flat out writing a book at the moment and I don't have the typing energy left at the end of each day to answer many emails.

I enjoyed your email very much, and I'm very pleased you enjoyed Toad Rage. I love the idea of my book being part of a maths activity. I wasn't very good at maths at school, so this makes me very proud, and if my old teacher hears about it he'll be amazed.

If you've started Toad Heaven, I hope it's making your warts tingle even more than Toad Rage.

Best wishes and happy reading
Morris

Dear Morris

Hi! My name is Kirsten. I am in grade 7 at Forest Hill State School, a small school in the Lockyer Valley. Anyway, enough of that. As you would know, this year is my last year of primary school and is the last chance I will probably ever have to e-mail you.

I am a big fan of your books and I have read Toad Rage, Water Wings and Worry Warts. I thought Toad Rage was EXCELLENT!!!!! I especially liked Limpy and Charm. I thought Goliath was pretty stupid and realized you probably wanted him to be that way.

Just found your site via the Childrens Book Council and I can't wait to tell my students about it. Our school library is not connected to the internet but I'm going to really push for it now! Keep up the good work & keep pumping out the books. I miss your contributions in The Good Weekend, any sign of something for the grownups? Gleitzman's Guide to Parenting?
Just a thought!
Keep up the good work

Dear Morris,

My name is Elizabeth I am 9 years old and I go to Rangeville sate school in Toowoomba QLD. I just love your books. My favourite book would have to be Second Childhood. I reckon it's pretty cool how Annie used to be Phar Lap, how Mark used to be Henry Ford, how Rufus used to be Enoch Wainright, how Pino used to be Einstein and how Daryl used to be Queen Victoria. Daryl is my favourite character especially when he says 'like farting in the bathroom'.

From Elizabeth.

P.S. I like Bumface too.

18 March

Hi, Morris,

I would like to let you know the kids in the Horsham Arts Council production of Two Weeks With The Queen are doing a great job with the play adapted from your book by Mary Morris.

Despite a less than sell-out performance in the Mechanics Hall at Edenhope near the South Australian border on Saturday night (13 in the audience including a mum, a dad, two grannies from interstate and an odd uncle) the performers did a wonderful job of entertaining the small but appreciative audience. The lack of crowds was due to a publicity hiccup and it looks like great crowds will be attending the rest of the performances in the Wimmera.

I'm Colin and Auntie Iris's mother and my children Paige and Sam are doing a great job with their first acting experience. Thank you for such a sensitive, fun and relevant book.

Julie

ps. Sam passes on his thanks for being allowed to say shit and crap and Paige says thanks for being allowed to yell at her little brother on stage every performance.

Dear Morris,

Hi, my name is Amanda and I come from Centre Bush in the South Island of New Zealand.I am 12 years old and as a class we have just finished reading your novel Adults Only. We really enjoyed the book and have made bookmarks, drawn our own maps, written about the characters and the plot. Now we are finished reading, we are writing book reviews on it.

We noticed that someone had already asked you about a sequel to the story. I was wondering if you are going to write a book about before Jake was born and before his Mum and Dad came to the Island? It might tell us more about when Gwen and Mabel were alive on the island.

We are going to make a list of all your books that we have in our school library and keep adding to the collection because we think they are funny and exciting and will get more kids into reading.

Yours faithfully,
Amanda

To Morris,
I really enjoyed reading your books. Especially Bumface.
When you send your stories to the publishers, do they ever say they are to rude to publish?! Anyhow, I like them that way.
Would you be so kind in telling me any more of your books that will be coming out, and when? I'd love to know.
What is your favorite book that you've written?
If you don't reply I will understand. Though that doesn't mean that I don't want you to reply!
Keep those good stories coming,
>From Dean.
Age 11

G'day Dean

Sometimes my publishers get a bit concerned about rude bits, but we usually manage to agree in the end. My next book is coming out in August – not sure of the title yet. My favourite is Two Weeks With The Queen with Bumface, Toad Rage and Water Wings a close equal second.

Happy reading

Morris

Hallo!
my name is Hoa
I go to Auckland Normal Intermediate in Auckland, New Zealand
I love reading your books
my favorite book is Two weeks with the queen
I would love one of your Just Looking books only I don't know how much stamps (can you use new Zealand stamps in Australia?) or what to do if I can't send you new Zealand stamps for you to use to send me the book.

thankyou for reading my e-mail
I know you are very busy but I would appreciate it if you could send a reply.

yours sincerely,
Hoa

Dear Hoa

Unfortunately we can't use New Zealand stamps in Australia, so here's what you do to get a copy of Just Looking.

Make a donation of $5 to your favourite charity and get a receipt. Send the receipt and a self-addressed envelope to the Just Looking address on the web site. I'll pay the postage and send you a copy of the book.

I'm glad you enjoy my books, Hoa. Two Weeks With The Queen is my favourite too.

Happy reading

Morris
