Rose Scott Social reformer and feminist

Born in 1847 at Gendon, NSW Australia. Died in 1925

Rose Scott was appointed secretary of the Women's Suffrage League in 1891. The League was disbanded after the passage of the NSW Women's Suffrage Act, but was succeeded by the Women's Political Educational League. Scott became President from 1902-10, campaigning strongly for reforms in laws that affected women and children. Many legislative improvements were effected, including the creation of a separate children's court. She was international Secretary of the National Council of Women in NSW. A pacifist she was a vocal opponent of the Boer War, and she also opposed Federation.
