Black Shorts

Black Shorts featured universal stories of modern living from three rising Indigenous playwrights. The three stories included in Black Shorts where Possession by Glen Shea, Jidja by Jadah Milroy and Beyond the Gate by Ray Kelly.

These passionate and rich tales cover a wide range of issues from an indigenous perspective, with "family" being a common linking theme.

Glen Shea's Possession is a confronting tale of spirits seeking redemption for a life of incest and murder. In contrast Jadah Milroy's play Jidja is a heart-warming story told through he eyes of Josie, now an old woman, recollecting her life-long search for her sister Jidja. While Beyond the Gate examines the lives of two rural families who are coming to terms with the problems they face living in a small community.

They can be old or new, big or small. They can be good for playing footy, they can be worn, durable, daggy or designer labelled. Some have a drawstring. Others have pockets. Kooemba Jdarra's Black Shorts offers a bit of everything. You will laugh and cry. You might wince and squirm but you will feel comfortable when you slip them on.
