Victorian Election 2002

Victoria Votes - ABC election coverage

For the quickest, most accurate guide to the Victorian election, watch Victoria Votes, presented by Kerry O'Brien and the ABC's chief Victorian television newsreader, Ian Henderson, with analysis from the ABC's election expert, Antony Green.

The program will be on the air from 6:00pm until 11:00pm AEDT or until the outcome is clear.

It will incorporate a news bulletin between 6:05pm and 6:30pm.

Victoria Votes will be mounted from the tally room established at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

On Kerry O'Brien's panel will be the Victorian Treasurer, John Brumby, representing the Labor Party and Ted Bailleau, the Oppposition spokesperson on planning, representing the Liberal Party.

Based on past elections, significant batches of votes will be counted in some seats by 6:30pm and some trends will be evident by 7:00pm.

Antony Green's computer program, which matches results booth-by-booth in electorates, can predict winners and losers on less than 5 per cent of the vote.

Ian Henderson will interview political candidates and ABC reporters in marginal seats around the state.

Statewide political reporter Josephine Cafagna will interviews guests on the tally room floor.

ABC Radio will also be providing up-to-the-minute coverage on election night. 774 ABC Melbourne and ABC Local Radio in Victoria will be broadcasting across the State for the Election. No other radio network can promise the same in-depth, immediate and up-to-date coverage that reaches all areas of Victoria.

From 6.00pm on Saturday November 30 presenter, Jon Faine will be broadcast live from the tally room in the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. Jon and his panel of guests including Minister for Transport, Peter Batchelor, former ABC state political reporter, Tony Allan, Professor Brian Costar from the Politics department at Monash University and vice-president of the Liberal Party Peter Clarke will follow the results seat by seat.

The panel will cross regularly to ABC Radio and TV News reporters based in seats and suburbs across the State, including Geelong, Carrum, Ballarat East, Ballarat West, Oakleigh, Shepparton, Bass, Mitcham, South West Coast, Burwood, Lowan, Benambra, Macedon, Bendigo East, Bendigo West, Mordiallic, Mildura and Melbourne. Jon will also speak with reporters based at both of the major party headquarters.

The following morning at 8.00am, AM will look at the results of the Election from a national perspective. At 10.00am, Virginia Trioli will host the post-election program. Who was victorious and what's in store for Victoria in the next four years? Tune in and let us know what you think. Talkback – (03) 9414 1774 or 1 800 033 800.

Some of ABC Local Radio's Election Night coverage will also be streamed at http://www.abc.net.au/election.
