Royal Australian Mint
The Royal Australian Mint opened in 1965 to produce Australia's decimal coinage, introduced into Australian circulation on 14 February 1966.

Visitors can watch the coin making process in action from the elevated Observation Gallery. You can examine rare and unusual coins from the earliest days of Australian settlement to modern decimal currency. There is also the chance to watch a projected DVD presentation in our theatrette.

The Mint is full of ever changing and fascinating exhibitions of old and new coins. This includes the Victory Medals from the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Tours are available, or you can walk through the Gallery on your own, guided by a light and sound commentary. Visit the Mint Shop which is full of unusual gift ideas such as souvenirs and collector coins, most of which are made on the premises.

Entry into the Mint is free.

The Mint is open to the public on:

  • Monday - Friday: 9am to 4pm.
  • Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays: 10am to 4pm.
  • closed on Christmas Day and Good Friday.
