  KAZANTZAKIS AND THE GREEK RENAISSANCE

A trip to Mistra with the creator of Zorba

Visit Mistra, the “Greek Pompeii”, with historian Zdenko Zlatar and the writer Nikos Kazantzakis (1883-1957). This hill town became the capital of southern Greece under late Byzantine emperors, before surrendering to the Ottomans in 1460. Mistra supported brilliant artists and architects, while its scholars helped to fuel the western Renaissance.

Zdenko will tell Mistra’s story, with pictures. Extracts from Kazantzakis’ travel writings will be read in English, introduced by Alfred Vincent. Music will include traditional verses on the Fall of Constantinople, with George Apostolidis and Theodoros Kostidis.

Presented by the Sydney Branch of the International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis.
