Northern Bowen Basin Solid Geology Map

Following the capture of new airborne geophysical data over the northern Bowen Basin, a re-interpretation of the solid geology was carried out.
The interpretation was done jointly by Renate Sliwa of CSIRO’s Mining and Exploration Division and John Draper from the Geological Survey of Queensland.
The resulting map shows significantly larger areas of basalt than known previously as well as many more intrusive rocks. Faults and dykes are shown in more detail, with the faulting directions shown. In parts of the map, the distribution of some of the units is changed reflecting the results of exploration mapping activities.
The new map provides a significant upgrade from the previous map covering the area which was prepared in the mid 1980s. The map can be obtained by the following methods:
