The Jingle Shrine - Melbourne, Australia

Show-casing Australian radio jingles from to 60's to the 90's
(non-java version, click here)
Welcome to the Jingle Shrine.
From humble beginnings of only one station (3XY) we have grown, due only to the fantastic response of site visitors. At the moment we feature around 27 stations - this will swell as we add in content from a few other stations. We now also feature a comprehensive section of old radio commercials, predominantly from the 70's but worth a listen. You can find these in the "other stuff" section of the site.
The visitor numbers are steadily climbing, some memories are being re-kindled and at the same time we are doing our bit to preserve some tid-bits of Australian Broadcasting.

Radio, by its very nature, is such an emotive medium, it reflects good times and bad, the fond memories of our youth can be relived just by hearing again that 10 second piece of music from way back when. I believe anybody who was listening to Australian radio in the period of 1965 until 1990 will have some memories rekindled by visiting this site. That's what it's all about .
I have sorted the jingles etc by station, the links below will take you to a selection of historic jingles and where I have been able to find it (or reflect) some history on the station itself. If you have some jingles you'd like to add or have included drop me a line by clicking on the postbox below. Even if you want to let me know your thoughts - feel free to drop me a line, all mail gets answered (eventually).
This site doesn't serve any other purpose than capturing a little bit of Australian radio history and preserving it for all prosperity. Radio was such a significant part of so many lives and I feel the area of around 1963 to 1988 was the Australian industry's watershed years. I'm glad that I was part of it and have been able to preserve some of it and share it with you.
We've stuck with Real Audio as the delivery system for the site, it eases copyright hassles and is still quicker and more manageable than mp3.
Thanks to David McKay and Wayne Mac for their help in sourcing some of the hard to find and out of the way jingles. In particular Wayne Mac, who has set himself the arduous task of assembling a comprehensive collection of Australian radio history from the big AM'ers of the Sixties and Seventies through to the first generation of the FM's in the 1980's. God knows, we're all too lazy to. A link exists to some information on Wayne's site below, (fellow radio industry members I urge you to support Wayne).
Enjoy.
The material I have is sorted by station. Click on the station name below to zap to a site of historical jingles. Where possible I have avoided doubling up of the same jingle that was recorded for different stations, ie the 3XY, 2NX series of 1980-81, so each page should give you many different jingles. Occasionally I have put groups of jingles into medleys although to speed up download times I have stuck to single jingles mainly. To our American friends, listen out for your PAMS, Pepper-Tanner and TM jingles recorded for the Australian market, yes - they made it over here too ! |
