How to get there

Public Transport

The nearest railway station is Lithgow or Bathurst The CRC bus service from Sydney runs once every 2 weeks. There is no public transport from Lithgow or Bathurst at the moment, may be facilitated in the future.

Private Transport

Take the Great Western Highway from Lithgow to Bathurst, approximately 40km from Lithgow turn at signposts into Sunny Corner Road.

The Centre is approximately 2km on left hand side of road and is well signposted - signs on roadway direct visitors to visits centre.
Designated parking available with wheelchair access.

Visit Information

Booking: Not required. Visit enquiries may be made on 02 6337 5219
Visit Times: Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays 9:00am - 3:00pm
What may be taken in: Barbeque and picnic food. Please contact the centre to check what items are permitted. Small amount of money for canteen purchases.

Legal Visits

Legal practitioners may visit seven days between 8:00am-4:00pm. Notification of intention to visit should be made by telephoning the centre on 02 6337 5219 twenty four hours in advance.

Industries

The Centre has a wide range of work for inmates, including timber box making, afforestation, welding, market gardening, and pottery. Kirkconnell inmates also carry out catering and all outside maintenance at the maximum security Lithgow Correctional Centre.

Certificates I, II & III in Information Technology
Certificates II & III in Communication Skills
Certificate I in Career Access (Horticulture)
Certificate II in Horticulture
Course in Planning for Employment & Training

Courses include spray painting, welding, hand and power tools, forklift driving, literacy and numeracy, small business management, pottery, leadlighting, and Aboriginal painting.

Special Programs

The Centre conducts a sex offenders program and a special program for developmentally delayed inmates.

Community Involvement

Inmates take part in the annual Clean Up Australia Day and work on various community projects. The Centre also has a fully trained bushfire fighting team comprising both correctional Centre staff and inmates.
