Minister for Senior Victorians Lisa Neville has named the 15
members of the new Ministerial Advisory Council of Senior Victorians
to be chaired by Merle Mitchell.
Ms Neville said the social and economic impact of Victoria’s
ageing population would make the work of the Ministerial Advisory
Council increasingly important.
The MACSV was set up in 2001 to focus on the needs of senior
Victorians by listening to their views and concerns, engaging
with key stakeholders and consulting peak seniors’ organisations.
MACSV Chair Merle Mitchell has served as a board member and President
of both the Australian and Victorian Councils of Social Service
and as Springvale Community Aid and Advice Bureau Director.
She has been involved in policy development and advocacy on issues
affecting low-income people and has served on senior government
advisory groups at the national and state levels.
Other MACSV members are:
• Jill Anwyl, Carlton North. Current community
connections include the Inner Northern Local Learning and Employment
Network committee, Princes Hill Secondary College Council and
the Education Foundation Australia Board.
James Brassil, Frankston. Currently serving
on the Victorian Liquor Licensing Panel, the Board of John Paul
College Frankston and charity work with the St Vincent de Paul
Society.
• Fred Chuah, Doncaster. Until recently a member
of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Cultural and Linguistic
Diversity including its working group on aged care (2002–2006).
• Anne Davie, Ventnor, Phillip Island. Received
a Commonwealth Recognition Award for Senior Australians 2000,
Regional Arts Victoria Award 2005 and was admitted to the 2005
Victorian Honour Roll of Women.
• Margot Green, Seymour. Awarded a CFA National
Medal (1996), Centenary Medal (2003) and Mitchell Shire Senior
Woman of the Year (2006).
• Henry Hudson, Queenscliff. Academic positions
with Deakin University (Head of Department of Chemical and Analytical
Sciences) and the former Gordon Institute of Technology (lecturer—Department of Applied Chemistry.)
• Don McDonald, Mordialloc. National Seniors
Association, Victorian State Policy Group and Kingston U3A.
• Joe Pavlovic, Geelong South. Victorian Multicultural
Commissioner (1997–2005) and founding member of the Geelong—Ethnic Communities Council (1976–1994).
• Beverly Peter, Mildura. An Aboriginal Elder
at the Mildura Koorie Court. Former ATSIC regional councillor
and a member of Koorie Women Mean Business.
• Cliff Picton, Glen Waverley. Current community
connections include Banksia Palliative Care committee and the
U3A Online committee.
• Peter Reid, Ballarat. Range of engineering-related
positions including Department of Natural Resources and Environment,
Telstra and the University of Ballarat.
• Georgia Richmond, Warrnambool. Recently retired
CEO of Lifeline South West Victoria, former registered nurse
with health care related positions with Loddon Mallee Regio
Women’s Health Service (Manager), Outer Eastern Region
Women’s Health Service (Manager), Collingwood Community
Health Service (Community Nurse, aged care), Footscray TAFE
(Counsellor/Student Health Officer) and Brunswick Tech School
(Community Nurse).
• Anne Sgro, Coburg North. Current community
connections include Union of Australian Women, FILEF—Italian
Federation of Migrant Workers and Families and Housing for the
Aged Action Group and Council on the Ageing (general member).
• Heather Wheat, Southbank. Senior Research
Officer (NHMRC) at University of Melbourne specialising in sensory
function.
• Robert Yung, Footscray West. Connected with
the Western Region Ethnic Communities Council, Victorian Elderly
Chinese Welfare Society and Hostel, City of Maribyrnong (Planning
and Budget Committee, Seniors Festival Committee and Safety
Taskforce) and Footscray Community Arts Centre board.
