Alpacas in Queensland

QueenslandWelcome!  You may already be aware of the warmth, comfort and luxurious feel of an alpaca garment. The enjoyment of raising alpacas is an additional benefit.

If you are interested in breeding alpacas in the comfortable climatic regions that Queensland provides then the information here may well be worthwhile and informative enough as a start in your inquiries.

Alpacas, while native to South America, have been part of the Queensland landscape for over a decade. The diversity of climates in which both Huacaya and Suri Alpacas are thriving in Queensland demonstrates the adaptability and resilience of these hardy, fibre producing animals.

Climatic Diversity

Members of the Queensland Region breed alpacas

in the subtropical coastal and hinterland areas of the Gold and Sunshine Coasts
inland, at higher altitudes along the Great Dividing Range from the Granite belt to Toowoomba
in central Queensland, from Bundaberg to Rockhampton
West across the Darling Downs to Dalby
North into the tropics as far as the Atherton Tablelands

Activities

All  members are continually working to improve the quality of their individual herds and are active members of the Australian Alpaca Association.

A motivated regional committee and an enthusiastic membership regularly cooperate in field days, workshops, shows and social activities. (See Events Calendar page).
