"Truth
is absolute, truth is supreme, truth is never disposable in
national political life"
John
Howard 25 August 1995

Another
John Howard lie
"The
most important thing that any government can do is to build
a sense of trust, a sense of integrity, a sense of honesty
and a sense of commitment to the Australian people. That trust
has disintegrated over the last 13 years. The Australian people
have been misled too often to believe that the last two or
three times was an accident. The Australian people have been
told things only to be disappointed after an election ...
I want to change that. I want to change it because I think
it is important to the future of our country that we rebuild
a sense of trust and confidence in words given and commitments
made by our political leaders."

John
Howard continues to lie about interest rates
John
Howard is struggling to get support for his interest rate
scare campaign from those who know the most about them. The
Prime Minister, John Howard, was asked yesterday to name one
independent economist who supported his claim that rates would
rise under a Labor government. "I don't need to invoke
names," he said.
That's
because there are none. Read
the report here.
Peter
Costello lies too
AN
attempt by Peter Costello to blow a $700million hole in Labor's
tax policy misfired yesterday after he wrongly accused the
Opposition of botching the timing of a benefit for low-income
earners. Read The Australian's report here.

bomb threat spin spells deja vu
Poor
Mick Keelty. Twice now, the federal police commissioner -
through no real fault of his own - has become the victim of
the Government's utter determination to pretend terrorists
aren't targeting us because of our involvement in Iraq. Read

Latham
wins debate and puts truth in government on the agenda
Labor
leader Mark Latham secured a much-needed boost in his election
campaign last night, winning a televised leaders' debate dominated
by global terrorism, health, tax relief, economic management
and leadership. Mark Latham focused on the issue of truth
in Government, saying that John Howard lied to the public
about our reasons for going to war in Iraq and over the "Children
Overboard" issue. Mr Latham also raised the issue of
Mr Howard's failure to make a solid commitment to remaining
in Parliament for the next 3 years. Read The
Age report here.

Howard
tries another "kids overboard" on Jakarta?
Checks
by Australian Federal Police have been unable to substantiate
John Howard's claim that someone called 45 minutes before
the bomb went off and the Indonesian police cannot find any
record of such a call.
AFP
commissioner Mick Keelty started to back away from the claims
on the weekend and the Prime Minister was left with the appearance
of making unsubstantiated claims. Was this a looming children
overboard saga? Yesterday, in the dry and deliberate words
of his press office statement, Howard was said to be just
passing on information to the public in the interests of transparency.

Finally
the truth about the War on Iraq making Australia a terrorist
target?
Deputy
Prime Minister, John Anderson said it was impossible to deny
Australia's involvement in the US-led coalition of the willing
had made it a target for radical Islamic terrorist groups.
Mr
Anderson acknowledged Australia was at higher risk from terrorists.
He agreed with US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who last
week said America's involvement in the war against Iraq had
made it a target for terrorists.
"Well,
it may be that, you know, those of us who have been particularly
prepared to stand up will be identified, whether it's for
propaganda purposes or whether it's reality, that might be
the case," Mr Anderson said. "You can't deny that
it could be." Read the full Sunday
interview here and The
Australian's coverage here.
Why
we are a bigger target
Richard
Woolcott, a former Australian ambassador and secretary of
the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, says by deciding
to join the invasion of Iraq, John Howard raised our profile
in the eyes of terrorists. Read his views here.
Time
to Get Active as polls show Lying Howard Government will be
returned
The
Coalition has won the first week of the election campaign,
drawing to level pegging with Labor. The first-week fear campaign
on interest rates has lifted the Howard Government's primary
vote above the ALP. The Prime Minister holds a big lead over
the Opposition Leader as the preferred prime minister. Read
