REGIONAL
ARTS GRANTS ANNOUNCED FOR WHYALLA, TUMBY BAY AND PORT LINCOLN
The electorate of Grey
will receive $51,430 from the latest round of the Commonwealth
Government’s Regional Arts Fund. In total, $105,705 went to 13 projects
benefiting more than 40 communities across South Australia.
‘We are fortunate to
have such a rich and vibrant cultural life in regional South Australia and
I am delighted to see such worthwhile and creative projects coming out of
our local community,’ Barry Wakelin, Member for Grey said.
D Faces of Youth Arts
in Whyalla will receive $4,000. ‘Massive Art’ is a collaboration
between D'Faces of Youth Arts
and the Students Under Mentors Pilot Scheme (STUMPS) where young
participants will take part in aerosol art workshops with artist James
Cochran (a.k.a. Jimmy C).
Emma Trenberth of
Tumby Bay will receive $2,130 to further develop her mentorship, with
local Eyre Peninsula professional artists Siv Grava and John Turpie
providing an opportunity for Emma to learn skills to develop a portfolio
and improve her ability to continue with her professional career.
The ‘Polymer
Printmaking and Artists Book’ in Port Lincoln will facilitate a five day
advanced printmaking course with Dianne Longley. The project will
culminate in the production of a Limited Edition Artists Book with work
from community printmakers of the region.
‘Within the next 12
months these projects will reverberate throughout our communities,
contributing to a richer, more satisfying environment for everyone.’
The Regional Arts Fund
is a Commonwealth Government initiative to support and encourage a wide
range of arts and cultural activities in regional and remote Australia,
providing opportunities for widespread community development. Country Arts
SA manages the fund in South Australia on behalf of the Commonwealth
Government.
Assistance is
available across all art-forms for projects that promote excellence in
regional arts development. Submissions for the next round of funding close
on 15 June 2003.
