History of the Journal

The Journal of Rural and Tropical Public Health is a free peer-reviewed online publication featuring review, investigation, management and research articles in the broad area of public health with a focus on rural and remote situations.

The Journal of Rural and Tropical Public Health arose from an edited volume published by the Australasian College of Tropical Medicine in 2001 (listed as VOLUME 0). When this volume proved to be successful and further papers were submitted for a second volume, the peer-reviewed Journal of Rural and Remote Environmental Health was created and volumes 1-3 were published from 2002 to 2004 by Warwick Educational Publishing Inc. The School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at JCU initially supported the Journal by hosting its articles, but now officially hosts and manages the renamed journal in its current and expanded form.
