The City of Melbourne has three public libraries - North Melbourne, East Melbourne and the City Library. North Melbourne and East Melbourne libraries belong to the Yarra Yarra Melbourne Regional Library ServiceMelbourne Regional Library Service, while the City Library is a joint venture between the City of Melbourne and the CAE. In addition there is a neighbourhood access point, Librarylink in South Yarra, offering a range of internet and library services.

Membership to the Yarra-Melbourne Regional Library service provides access to all public branches.  Visit its website at www.ymrl.org.au for information about the libraries and online services such as joining online, searching the catalogue, renewing items, placing reservations and access to a range of online resources.

Both the East Melbourne and the North Melbourne libraries have an extensive range of materials for people of all ages and interests. Large print books for the sight-impaired are also available.

The libraries also hold newspapers and periodicals, local history collections, non-English speaking materials and audio visual materials, including collections of talking books.

Both libraries offer public access to the Internet, word processing facilities, school holiday activities, community information databases, and other services.

Residents of Melbourne are also welcome to use the other libraries in Carlton, Collingwood, Fitzroy, North Fitzroy and Richmond. Librarylink in the Domain Bakery provides internet access and a neighbourhood access point for library services in the South Yarra area.
