The National Capital Authority and the University of South Australia are hosting a free symposium in Adelaide tomorrow called 'Our Planned Cities: Australia's National Capital and South Australia's State Capital'.

The aim of the symposium is to highlight and evaluate Australia's two most significant planned cities in terms of:

  • historic rationale, and planning and design success in supporting changing cultural, technological and environmental times, and
  • lessons for the future.

Speaking on Canberra will be Dr David Headon, Cultural Advisor of the NCA, while Professor Stephen Hamnett, Professor of Urban and Regional Planning, University of South Australia, will talk about Adelaide.

Following the two 30-minute presentations, there will be a 45-minute discussion, with questions from the audience and a panel comprising:

Dr Christine Garnaut, UniSA Research Fellow and Architecture Museum Director
Chris Bowe, RAIA SA Manager and Managing Editor of Place magazine
Dr Anthony Radford, University of Adelaide Professor of Architecture
James Hayter, AILA Fellow and Director of Oxigen Director
Chair: Professor Mads Gaardboe, Head of Architecture and Design, UniSA
