Wednesday 13 August 2003 Human Rights Medal and Awards 2003CALL FOR NOMINATIONSSince 1987, the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission has hosted the Human Rights Medal and Awards to celebrate the achievements of individuals and organisations who have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of human rights in Australia. Previous Human Rights Medal winners include the former Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, Helen Bayes, founder and National Coordinator of Defence for Children International, Indigenous leader Dr Faith Bandler and community advocate Vivi Germanos-Koutsounadis. Last year’s Human Rights Medal was awarded to welfare rights advocate Michael Raper. The Commission is calling for nominations from individuals and organisations for the 2003 Human Rights Medal and Awards in the following categories:
The 2003 Human Rights Medal and Awards will be presented on Human Rights Day, Wednesday 10 December 2003, at a luncheon ceremony at the Sheraton on the Park hotel, Sydney, from 12 midday to 3pm.
