Something Fishy at Nursery Reservoir

The Member for Macedon, Joanne Duncan, will help release 1,000 trout into Nursery Reservoir at Macedon today.

Ms Duncan said 500 rainbow and 500 brown trout would be stocked as part of the Bracks Government program.

“The trout will be about a year old and ready to catch providing great opportunities for recreational anglers – whether they’re experienced fishers or casting a line for the first time,” Ms Duncan said.

“The Bracks Government, through the Department of Primary Industries (DPI), stocked more than 1.3 million trout, salmon and native fish last year into Victoria’s inland lakes and reservoirs.

“During the past five years 30 per cent more fish had been stocked into Victorian waterways – or an extra 380,000 each year – compared with the previous five-year period under the former Government.

“The Government recognises the importance of recreational fishing and wants to provide opportunities to all Victorians. Our fish stocking program is a key part of the commitment.”

Ms Duncan said the Bracks Government strongly supported recreational fishing, which was both a popular pastime and a significant contributor to local economies – especially in Provincial Victoria.

“In addition to record fish stocking, we’re also investing an extra $3.2 million to support family friendly fishing fun.”
