Commissioned Studies

The commissioned specialist studies are available below. If you have difficulty accessing the information provided and need further assistance, please contact us.

  • Life-Cycle Energy Balance and Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Nuclear Energy in Australia - PDF 2.75MB - Integrated Sustainability Analysis, The University of Sydney
The Terms of Reference required the Taskforce to consider the extent to which nuclear energy could contribute to the reduction of global greenhouse gas emissions. To assist with its analysis, the Taskforce commissioned an independent study of the energy use and greenhouse gas emissions associated with the nuclear fuel cycle. This study was undertaken by the University of Sydney. The report provides a rigorous analysis of the energy-and greenhouse gas emissions-intensity of nuclear power in an Australian context, and also analyses the performance of fossil fuel and renewable generation technologies.
  • Review and Comparison of Recent Studies for Australian Electricity Generation Planning - PDF 1.78MB - Electric Power Research Institute
The Terms of Reference required the Taskforce to consider the extent and circumstances in which nuclear energy could in the longer term be economically competitive in Australia. The Taskforce commissioned a report the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) to help it examine the comparative economics of electricity generating technologies. The EPRI report involved a review of recent international studies and assisted in identifying factors relevant to applying the studies in an Australian context.
  • Uranium: Global Market Developments and Prospects for Australian Exports (the PDF document is located on the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics website)
The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE) was commissioned to help assess the prospects of Australia’s uranium industry. The assessment was commissioned jointly with the Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources.
