Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has been nominated at the Morgan Stanley Great Briton awards under the category of "Arts". Rowling is nominated alongside artist Damien Hirst and actor Sir Ian McKellen. The awards recognise key figures of the past year, as nominated by the British public.

JK Rowling attended a cocktail party last night to celebrate the upcoming auction of The Tales of Beedle the Bard. At the party, Jo read an excerpt from the collection of fairytales to her audience. Rowling presents award to Fry at British Comedy Awards
Author J.K. Rowling presented Stephen Fry (narrator of the UK Harry Potter audio books) with the British Comedy Lifetime Achievement Award at the British Comedy Awards on December 5. According to one report, host Jonathan Ross had some fun with Rowling by asking her to sign one of author Phillip Pullman's books, not her own. J.K. Rowling has been named Entertainment Weekly's 2007 Entertainer of the Year. EW said, "J.K. Author J.K. Rowling is one of ten people being considered for Time Magazine's Person of the Year title. Time is asking readers to vote for who they think should be Person of the Year in an online poll; the person with the most votes will not necessarily be named Person of the Year, though. It's been a little over twenty-four hours since J.K. Rowling revealed that Dumbledore was gay, and opinions are already flaring. A large number of people are welcoming the news and commending Rowling for being frank. But, as the best-selling author predicted, some people are fuming.
