Author Khaled Hosseini was born in Afghanistan, and moved to Paris with his family in the 1970s, before relocating to the united States in 1980. In 2001, while working as a doctor, Hosseini began writing his first novel, The Kite Runner. The Kite Runner has since become a bestseller, published in forty-two different languages. It focuses on the friendhip between two boys in Kabul - the different paths their lives take, and the connections that remain.
Hosseini's second novel A Thousand Splendid Suns, has just been released and tells the story of two generations experiencing events in Afghanistan across thirty years, starting with the Soviet invasion of the country.
