Redland Mayor Don Seccombe has released Redland Shire Council’s submission to the Local Government Reform Commission, showing that 80 per cent of Redland residents polled opposed any change to local boundaries.

The submission responded to the Commission’s invitation for public comment to aid the review of Queensland local governments and included the results of an independent telephone survey carried out earlier in May.

“The community has sent a very clear message with 70 per cent of those interviewed believing they would be worse off if amalgamation or major boundary changes occur,” said Mayor Seccombe.

The survey also found that 43 per cent of the community supported the state government’s reform agenda, with 38 per cent opposed to it and 19 per cent not having a view.

Mayor Seccombe said that he was also gratified that 75 per cent of people interviewed said they were either ‘very satisfied’ or ‘somewhat satisfied’ with current levels of service they receive from Council.
