Local government reform
The Queensland Government is implementing a major reform of the State’s local government system.
This reform replaces the Size, Shape and Sustainability project which all councils, including Caloundra City, had been participating in. The reform is also expected to impact on the Councillor representation and electoral boundaries review.
The reform was announced on April 17 by Premier Peter Beattie and Local Government Minister Andrew Fraser.
Council's submission
A complete review of Queensland local government boundaries is now underway.
A Local Government Reform Commission has been established to determine boundaries, names and electoral arrangements for the new councils.
This process will determine what changes, if any, are considered appropriate for Caloundra City.
Council's submission recommends that Council remain a stand-alone local government authority. However, if amalgamation in some form is recommended by the Commission, that this does not impact on the benefits the City's residents currently enjoy. For more detail, download the submission:

The Commission will provide its recommendations on the new local government boundaries to the State Government in August.
Any proposed reforms, boundary changes and amalgamations will be considered by Parliament by September. The necessary reforms are expected to be in place by the next local government elections in March 2008.
