Newspaper collectionThe State Library has an extensive Newspaper collection consisting of about 1700 different newspapers, published in Australia and overseas. The Library specialises in collecting suburban and regional newspapers published in New South Wales with these newspapers comprising approximately eighty percent of the collection. Newspapers are extremely fragile and for preservation purposes microfilm copies are issued wherever possible. Most newspapers are available on microfilm in the State Reference Library Reading Room. The original paper copies of most newspapers are kept in Offsite storage. Selected newspapers are available in electronic format for selected years. For more information, see our list of databases.
