Home>About Hobsons Bay>Sister City - Anjo, Japan
| Hobsons Bay City Council enjoys a sister city relationship with Anjo, Japan.
It provides great opportunities for citizens of Hobsons Bay to interact with the people of Anjo, and as a result, many wonderful friendships have been created.
| |
| Hobsons Bay International Friendship Association | | The Hobsons Bay International Friendship Association (HBIFA) assists Council in its sister-city relations and works very hard to promote the sister-city arrangement throughout Hobsons Bay.
This is done in a number of ways. Annually, four students and a chaperone are chosen to visit Anjo, stay with host families for two weeks, and experience Japan’s unique culture. Prior to the trip Australian students and chaperone host their Japanese counterparts and show them life in Australia. HBIFA also regularly exchanges artwork with Anjo, participates in the Bayside festival and often host a citizen’s delegation (of adults) for short periods.
| |
| Anjo | | Through Anjo's participation in the annual Tanabata (star) festival, Australian students and chaperone are able to further experience Japan's unique arts and culture.
Known for its agricultural achievements, Anjo is located south of Nagoya and is home to some 180,000 people. It is the seventh largest city in the Aichi prefecture and is 56 years old. | |
