Senior ARM campaigner admits he’ll be “side by side” with Cleary if referendum goes down
In a dramatic admission that the pro-republic momentum will continue if the November referendum is defeated, prominent Australian Republican Movement (ARM) campaigner, Mr Jason Yat-Sen Li , has publicly admitted “if it goes down I’m going to be side by side with Phil”.
Mr Yat-Sen Li made the admission, while debating Real Republic director Phil Cleary, on Perth radio 6PR’s Harvey Deegan program yesterday afternoon (28 October). Real Republic has only now obtained a partial transcript of the debate and it can be found on its website at www.realrepublic.com.au.
Mr Cleary said Real Republic has always known that the push for a republic will continue if the elitist November 6 proposal is lost.
“This has been confirmed to us privately by a number of senior politicians in all major political parties and also by other YES supporters. It has now been confirmed publicly by one of the ARM’s most prominent campaigners.
“The people of Australia, who overwhelmingly want to vote for their president, can now safely vote NO – because they will get a second chance and next time they will be given the option of an elected president,” Mr Cleary said.
