Quality Assurance and Archiving

When a resource has been downloaded to PANDAS the instance will appear on the Process Instances screen. If you are the owner of the title you will receive notification that the gather is complete in Current Messages box on the Main Menu screen. (To take ownership of a title select the "Take ownership of title" option from the Advanced drop-down menu on the Title View screeen for the title.) Direct links to the instance on the Process Instances screen will also be found in the Completed queue on the Gather Queue screen and on the My Processing List screen.

Quality Assurance

To view the gathered resource click on the Gathered URL link found on the Basic tab on the Process Instances screen. This will open the downloaded (or uploaded) resource in a new browser window. You can then browse the site to check that it is complete and functional.

Occasionally, when you click on the Gathered URL link, it will take you to a directory instead of the starting page. To rectify the problem, you need to enter the location (URL) of the starting page in the box designated as Starting URL under the Files tab on the Process Title screen. Then press the update button and close the record. You then need to go back to the Process Instances tab again. Click on the Gathered URL link which should have been updated and it will take you to the specified starting page.

If you need to add, delete or edit any files, you will need read/write access to the files. To do this you use the same process as for uploading resources from a local drive.

  1. Go to the Files tab and copy the WebDAV url for this instance
  2. Use your Windows My Netword Places function (or Web Folder depending on the version of Windows you are using) to create a new network place and open access to the PANDAS instance you have created
  3. Using Windows Explorer, you can then perform problem fixing tasks such as:
  • Copying and pasting missing files from a local drive (i.e. download missing files to a local drive first) to the appropriate directory in the gathered copy (create the directory if necessary).
  • Deleting files from the gathered copy.
  • Copying files from the gathered copy to your desktop, editing the file (e.g. to reference links) and copying it back to the gathered copy.

Archiving

When you have completed the quality assurance you can either delete the instance (if it is unacceptable for archiving) or you can "archive" the gathered resource.

To delete the instance click on the red Delete button found on the Main tab on the Process Instances screen. This deletes the instance and you can, if you wish, attempt another gathering immediately.

To archive the gathered resource, click the green Archive button found on the Main tab on the Process Instances screen. This moves the files from a working area to the display area and also initiates preservation routines (i.e. creates preservation copies of the original unaltered downloaded/uploaded files/s and the display version including any fixes carried out during the quality assurance process). This process may take some minutes to complete.
