General Procedures - Collections
The National Library of Australia and its archiving partners in PANDORA have created a number of Collections. These Collections are on a wide range of subjects and events. Collections were initially used in PANDORA to group together subject based ephemera titles, this was mainly done as an assistance to users in highlighting related content as previously there were limited ways of easily accessing grouped content. With better developed search functionality and enhanced subject browse listings, this is no longer the case and a number of older Collections have been removed leaving their titles within the general run. Collections are now primarily (though not exclusively) used to bring together a group of titles on a particular event such as an election or other event of national or state wide significance (i.e. World Youth day, 2008). However there are still a number of Collections on a related subject (i.e. Australian Dance Videos), or used to collect together a set of titles on a related subject that were gathered within a discrete time frame (i.e. Publishers, Sept.-Dec. 2000)
Collection general guidanceWhen a new Collection is created, these general rules apply.
- if there is a reasonable amount of content (or a smaller amount if it is highly relevant) a separate Title is created using filters to archive only that which is directly relevant to the Collection. Personal blogs that contain content of relevance to the Collection, but are not created specifically on the Collection subject are not added to Collections.

Collections for elections
The web resources that are created as part of elections are a collecting priority area for PANDORA.
A State/Territory or Federal Election should always have a Collection created for it.
The titles that can be added to a Collection include:
– Campaign web sites of political parties contesting the election
– Web sites and/or blogs of political candidates contesting the election
– Web sites of pressure, special interest or lobby groups, which are giving political guidance
– Web sites of community organisations with electoral content whether giving political guidance or not
– Web site of the relevant Federal or State Electoral Commission
– Web sites of media organisations providing election coverage (i.e. the ABC, online newspapers etc.)
– Psephology websites/blogs with election coverage
– Political humour or satire web sites/blogs with relevance to an election/elections
– Election campaign video files on video hosting web sites (YouTube etc.)
– Election campaign materials on ‘Web 2.0’ websites (MySpace etc.)
The web resources not suitable for archiving within an election Collection include:
– Personal blogs that contain election comment, but are not created specifically for the election
– Web sites of political parties that are not the relevant campaign web site (it should be noted that some political parties keep their ongoing sites relatively unchanged but produce a separate campaign website, in this case only archive the campaign website)
